This week saw the M3s (2nd from bottom) taking a good side to Bishops Stortford (4th from bottom) to try an claw our way up the table.
Berko started strongly with Bishops Stortford backed up in their own half for almost the whole of the first 15 minutes. However, Berko failed to capitalise on chances made until a short corner was swiftly drag flicked home by Will Steed. The second half saw Bishops Stortford getting back into the game more winning a disputed short corner (probably the right decision though) which resulted in a goal. Berko defence looked pretty solid with some particularly uncompromising play from Page. Bishops Stortford fluffed a short corner push out but was casually picked up and smashed home on the reverse stick by one their youngsters (how do youngsters make this look so easy ?). This was against the run in play. Berko did not let their heads go down and upped the pressure further but the Bishops Stortford goalie skilfully blocked out further chances. Some questionable umpiring decisions frustrated both sides (unsurprisingly Wellsy was always close at hand to offer the umpires some free coaching). Robbos umpire coaching attempt was less well received and resulted in a green card. Finally Goodwyn picked the ball out of the air in a short corner melee and shot against a Bishop Stortford foot on the line to win a penalty stroke which Wellsy despatched with ease into the top left (quite classy actually). Berko continued to press for the rest of the game but it ended as a 2-2 draw. We returned home ruing the chances missed but taking some comfort from securing at least one more point in the league. M3s now require some good wins in our remaining games to avoid the risk of relegation.
