There was very different look to the team that lined up against Luton, but it didn’t take long for everyone to settle down and allow James to score the opening goal in the first minute.

This was quickly followed by Ben stepping up for his first of the afternoon from a penalty flick. 2-0 and all was ticking along nicely. Some great passing and moving particularly from the younger members of the team (Dom, Archie, James, Toby and Louis) who combined extremely well together through the midfield. Mark also pulled off a couple of blinding saves as usual, including one rather unusually with his neck….Luton settled as well though and came back with a couple of their own to level the scores, but Berko pushed on again with Louis scoring his first for the team from a crisp 3 pass move from out of defence just before half time. During the second half some of the early energy was beginning to dwindle but Berko were the first to score again with Ben smartly striking home from a short. This certainly fired Luton up and they embarked on a spree of goals getting into a 6-4 lead with about 10 minutes to go. Berko got one back from another Ben short corner strike but despite the pressure that followed Luton’s defence held firm with a typically robust period of hard tackling to prevent a stream of attacks and to see the match out. Although disappointing to see another half-time lead lost, there was much to be taken from the game, which showed very clearly the benefits of the short passing game that had led to our early success. Overall, this was a very good performance against the league’s second place team and a memorable hat-trick for Ben.
