Things did not look particularly promising at half time. Hertford led 2-0, Berkhamsted shots on goal were scuffed and Hertford were breaking freely through the midfield.
Reassurance was needed at the break over the Berkhamsted formation and some may have wondered whether a team shorn of a couple of the usual youngsters had the fitness to respond having lost the previous two weekends to the cold. There were two silver linings: the score line could have been worse (Ben had made a waistline save on the line off a Hertford short corner) and the Berkhamsted passing game was picking up.
The second half contained really good passages of play from Berkhamsted, often down the flanks and including some crisp short passing. The midfield of Steve, Dawood, Ben, Paul W, Simon and Richard gained ascendancy and the defence of Jon, Robin and Paul K (and, of course, Mark in goal) held firm. Oli and Dubi started to enjoy themselves more and the goals flowed. Four in total (two for Oli and two for Paul W) and the 3s showed the England rugby team that comebacks are possible if composure is kept.
A 4-2 win to Berkhamsted and survival in the league remains in the 3s’ hands. Well done to all and particularly stand in captain Richard.
