Rickmansworth 2 Berkhamsted 2

Berkhamsted 3rds met Rickmansworth in pleasant conditions at Clement Danes School. Berkhamsted and Rickmansworth had been closely matched in the league all season and the match followed this pattern with both sides having periods of pressure but unable to sustain this.

Midway through the first half Trevor Whitehead intercepted a misplaced Rickmansworth pass on the half way line and headed for goal. After beating a defender he got his shot in which the keeper could only half stop and Trevor followed up to open the scoring. Berkhamsted held this lead to half time but were rather sloppy after the break in clearing their lines and put pressure back on themselves conceding a short corner from which Rickmansworth equalised. Although Berkhamsted mounted a few attacks, Rickmansworth had more of the pressure and scored a second following a free hit just outside the ‘D’. Berkhamsted were grateful at this stage for an excellent performance from young Oliver Rogers at the back which was drawing admiring comments from the opposition players. Towards the end of the game Berkhamsted managed to put pressure back on Rickmansworth and from a free hit Steve Thie held up the ball well and passed to Mike Whitaker who scored with a crisp shot into the corner of the net. This turned out to be the final score of an even and enjoyable match.
