Berkhamsted 1st XI 6 Royston 2

The last competitive match of the season for Berkhamsted 1st pitched them against the top of the table and champions Royston (unbeaten for the season).  A tough last fixture however with Berkhamsted cruising towards the end of the season with 5 wins out of their last 6, there was much optimism within the team.  Berkhamsted started well putting Royston under some early pressure without really troubling their goal.

A stalwart performance from the midfield marshalled by the imperial Rocky Savage and rejuvenated by the return to the 1st team of Nigel Edwards ably supported by Jack Peplow and Jason Silver down the wings saw Berkhamsted get the best of the first 15 minutes.  However very much against the run of play Royston had two quick lightning counter attacks which resulted in two goal.  Not daunted Berkhamsted raised their game and shook off this shock to mount a series of attacks, one led to a short corner and from this Pete Allam (the teams top scorer by some margin) shot viciously at the Royston keeper who pulled off a good save, only for Jason Silver to be on hand and with a superb reverse stick volley scored the goal that started the revival.

Soon afterwards Berkhamsted were level at 2-2 thanks to a powerful short corner from Pete Allam that the goal keeper was unable to save this time.  2-2 at half time.

Following a rousing half time team talk by Simon Leatham Berkhamsted returned to the fray and through ruthless efficiency buried Royston with a bombardment of goals.  Pete Allam got his now customary reverse stick bullet giving him 27 goals for the season,  The rout of the second half was complete with a goal each from Pete Allam, a thunder bolt of a shot from Rocky Savage and an impressive display of dribbling in the D followed by a slip past the keeper by the captain, James Barron.

A good finish to the season saw Berkhamsted finish towards the top of the table, with much promise for next season.

Scorers: Pete Allum 4, Jason Silver, Rocky Savage
