With the weather finally relenting, Berkhamsted 4^th XI were able to get back into action with a match against Thames Valley 3rds. The grass pitch was in surprisingly good condition and Berkhamsted started brightly and came close on a number of occasions before David Wright opened the scoring with a powerful shot from just inside the D. Berkhamsted doubled their lead when Chris Ray won a tackle on the edge of the D and his effort at goal was turned in by Brian de Mattos. Just before half time Alex Hardwicke added a third when his wayward shot was turned into the net by a defender. Thames Valley were defending well with skipper Paul Bacon outstanding, but their youthful front line lacked firepower. This allowed Berkhamsted plenty of possession but they found it hard to increase their lead until Tim Buckley came up from defence to join in a move and find Brian de Mattos to score his second.
