Berko 3s Unbeaten Run Continues Broxbourne 3 - Berkhamsted 5 Berkhamsted 3s extended their unbeaten run to 11 games albeit, they had to come from behind to do it. Experimenting with a new formation, Berko weren't too quick out of the blocks. Within 15 minutes, we found ourselves 3-0 down, all three goals being quick counter attacks where are Berko were pushing forward too far.
However, it wasn't long before Berko's attack found its rhythm, where Paul Debenski continuously threaded the ball to Dom Johnson who time and time again waltzed past Broxbourne's full-back.
After several short corners, Ben Moorhouse converted one after rounding the busy opposition goalkeeper. Straight after the second half started, a neat passing move between Josh Frewin and Gordon Squire saw Dom thread the ball through to Ben Moorhouse, who planted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3-2. Berko continued to play the game in the opposition half, where Dom won a short corner. After a brilliant injection from Mark Robinson, Ben Moorhouse slipped the ball left where Jim Carlile expertly drilled the ball into the corner of the goal, giving Berko a deserved equaliser! This wasn't to be the end of the scoring. Steve Thie made a crucial challenge in defence, where he shipped the ball out to Tom Kemplen who drove forward and Tom Frewin knocked the ball to Jim who arrowed the ball to Mark to slot home from a central position, giving Berko a 4-3 lead. James Layton and Ben Matthews were brought on to give us fresh legs and to help us protect our lead. The team let Broxbourne dwindle around with the ball in their own half, wasting precious time. Eventually, Broxbourne broke through Berko's much improved defence but a certain goal was denied by an exceptional James Layton (Pictured) tackle. Despite the pressure, Berko's goalie Colin Izzard was much of a spectator during the final stages, not having to make any saves at all! Broxbourne committed one too many men forward, and Berko played them at their own counter attacking game, where a Ben Moorhouse shot was deflected into the path of Mark, who made no mistake in getting his second of the game and Berko's 5. Final Score Broxbourne 3 Berkhamsted 5
