With three big players away, and when we say big, we mean in proportions it was up to the lighter, faster and skillfull youngsters to carry the seconds promotion dreams. Travelling away to Broxbourne who put out a side that resembled their first team struck the first blows to the usually water tight Berkhamsted defence with two goals in the first ten minutes.
Berkhamsted regrouped with Leatham, Hodges and Seymour bringing back memories of the Colts of 1988 linked well with the current exiting crop of youngsters in Bowman, Baxter, Johnson and Prowse. Berkhamsted slowly clawed their way back into the game, with the defence stepping up with Murray and Holderness allowing the attacking formation to flourish playing some fantastic flowing hockey with Seymour finishing off two good moves with assists from Johnson and Hodges. Going in at half time the match was evenly poised, knowing the next goal was crucial, Berkhamsted drove forward with tenacious work from the spritely Smit and Bowman gaining a short corner that was dispatched by the ever youthful Hodges.

Broxbourne rallied and gained a short corner of their own which they took advantage of to make it 3-3.
Then up steps the tallest man in the club, Jamie Holderness who broke up a Broxbourne attack on the 25, drove forward winning a 50/50 on the half way line before delivering a ball to Baxter, who in turn found, Bowman, then Seymour, then Johnson before Holderness found himself in unfamiliar territory inside the Broxbourne D, finishing off a great move by passing the ball passed the keeper to score his first goal for Berkhamsted in 40 years.

From then on it was all Berkhamsted who dominated possession testing the Broxbourne keeper numerous times and hitting the post on more than one occasion. It was just deserts when after intense pressure the ball fell to Seymour on the edge of the Broxbourne D who calmly lifted the ball over the crowd and in off the underside of the bar to complete his hat trick capping a superb team display.

Promotion dreams still alive the question on everyone's lips now is will Payton, Kaye and Burles, who preferred a Yorkshire golf course this week instead of battling it out with a good quality Broxbourne side, get back in to this winning team?

Goals:
DDSeymour 3
Hodges 1
Holderness 1 (1st after 40 years)
