BHHHC 5th XI 2 – 1 Gerrards Cross
A second win before Christmas for the 5th’s, that’s virtually unheard of!
There was a bit of a delayed start, they turned up with a goalie so we had to find a willing volunteer and get him kitted up, that volunteer was a very cold by the end of the game Zac, but big thanks to him for doing it, he even said he might like to give it another go on a warmer day. We also lacked an umpire, and again big thanks go to Ali who volunteered to carry out that task whilst also playing for the opposition. The other member of our team who sort of volunteered to play for the opposition was James, though I do believe the opportunity to hit a few shots at Zac made asking him to do it that much easier.
On to the game, we started the brighter, putting in several good attacks. The pressure eventually told and after some good work by Pigsy & Martin down the right, Andy’s shot cannoned off their keeper’s pads for Rob, on his first game of the season, to turn the ball into the net.
It was a fairly even game after that, neither team troubling the keepers too much, then after a 2nd short corner, Gerrards Cross levelled the score from a tight angle. There was very little the young keeper could do about it.
The 2nd half started similarly to the 1st, all very even, most of the game played out in the middle of the park. About half way through the half, after a short corner and a bit of a scramble in the D, Andre slotted the ball home for a 2-1 lead. (At least I think that’s what happened, I’m having trouble recalling the goal, I’m fairly sure it was Andre who scored & I’m fairly sure it was from a short corner)
We dominated the rest of the half, Andy failing to convert a one-on-one with the keeper after beating their last line of defence. Zac did have to make one good save late on, but the defence in front of him was very strong this week.
As the light faded and the ball got stuck in the leaves once again, the final whistle blew giving the 5ths their 2nd victory of the season.
