Berkhamsted finished the first half of the season with a friendly match at Bicester. The game was very open with short corners and chances at both ends but Bicester took the lead towards the end of the first half from a short corner.
The Bicester goalkeeper did very well to keep the score at 1-0 after Brian de Mattos deflected a Trevor Whitehouse shot in front of him. Berkhamsted increased the pressure in the second half and from a hard-driven long corner taken by Ben Glynn, Brian de Mattos flicked the ball round the keeper and when a defender failed to clear the ball, was on hand to push the ball into the net for the equaliser. The match remained evenly balanced and Bicester had chances well saved by Jay Cremin and Ian Odell cleared one short corner of the line. However, Berkhamsted grabbed the winner following a great run from Steve Thie. The goalkeeper managed to block his path, but the ball was kept alive by Trevor Whitehead and then ran loose to Brian de Mattos who despatched it into the roof of the net. Overall a good game between two evenly matched teams.
