Winchmore Hill & Enfield 0 Berkhamsted 3rd XI 5
Berkhamsted Thirds met a very young Winchmore Hill side in North London. Winchmore Hill started enthusiastically and had the majority of the early position but Jon Peplow marshalled the defence well and their chances were limited.
As the half wore on Berkhamsted gradually came back into the game and when Nick Cave managed to beat two players in midfield he found the space to set up Jim Watson to score. Just on half time a Tim Buckley free hit was only partially cleared and Steve Thie added a second with the last hit of the half. Berkhamsted took control in the second half and when Trevor Whitehead picked a loose ball in the ‘D’ and shot into the corner the match was effectively over. Terry Wintle in the Berkhamsted goal did not touch the ball in the second half and two more Tim Buckley free hits were turned into the net by Brian de Mattos and Jim Watson respectively to make the final score 5-0.
