Berkhamsted 1xi 3 Winchmore Hill & Enfield 1xi 1 Pete scored two and made another as a battling Berko notched up a memorable win against top of the league Winchmore Hill & Enfield 1xi.
Berko absorbed the early pressure and crucially scored first through a whipped cross from Pete which was guided goal wards by Rocky, to give the home team a 1-0 half time lead.
Berko started strongly in the second half and caught the visitors napping early on. Rocky and Tupper combined to feed Pete from a long corner and the opposition’s keeper was clearly confused by his ‘dambusters’ inspired shooting technique, allowing the ball to bounce into the back of his goal.
The home team was not however content to rest on their laurels and Pete scored his second soon after, following a defense splitting pass from Roger. Pete tried a slightly more orthodox technique this time, rounding the keeper before finishing on his reverse stick.
A string of saves from man of the match Jay denied the visitors a foothold into the game until mid way through the second half when an unfortunate goal was awarded from a short corner. Replays clearly showed Berko’s tallest player used his foot to redirect the ball between his keeper’s leg and the home team were unlucky to concede. Â
Sliver, clearly incensed by this decision, lost his cool soon after and was yellow carded for a disgraceful stick waving incident on the half way line. Â
Winchmore redoubling their efforts; however a 10 man Berko held on for a well deserved 3-1 win.
