Berkhamsted 5 Stevenage 1

Berkhamsted started strongly in this game but initially found it hard to break down the Stevenage defence. Midway through the first half, following something of a scramble, James Westley, making his first start of the season, managed to touch the ball home.

Shortly afterwards Ben Glynn cut in from the left wing and fired a strong shot across the keeper to make it 2-0 at half time. Berkhamsted continued to press in the second half but were caught out on a breakaway and although Terry Wintle saved the forward’s first shot he was unable to stop the follow up from entering the net. Berkhamsted continued to play good, controlled hockey and had most of the possession and Ben Glynn profited from a mix-up in the Stevenage defence to score again and then completed his hat-trick with a fine shot into the corner of the net. Brian de Mattos completed the scoring with a deflection from a strong cross from James Westley. Overall a very good performance that showed that the team can play well when allowed a little time. Some of the teams in this league do not allow us that luxury.
