Cheshunt 2 Berkhamsted 4
Berkhamsted 3rds returned to league action with a re-arranged fixture at Cheshunt. Berkhamsted started brightly but quickly found themselves behind when a defensive misunderstanding left a Cheshunt player with an easy tap-in.
Cheshunt effectively returned the favour when Trevor Whitehead was unopposed as he advanced into the ‘D’ , the defenders appeared to anticipate a pass and he was able to place the ball in the corner of the net. Berkhamsted soon took the lead when Jim Watson converted after a fine attacking move. Early in the second half Watson got his second with a shot just inside the post from Paul Dubenski’s free hit. Cheshunt responded well and had the majority of the play for a time but Berkhamsted were well marshalled by Steve Thie at the back and Tim Westley managed to break away and score the 4th. Just before the end Cheshunt’s pressure paid off when a defensive mistake led to the Cheshunt winger having a simple chance to score their second.
