BHHHC 3-0 Cheshunt  Berkhamsted lined up a strong team at home against Cheshunt, both teams were mid to lower end of the table so the points were needed to ensure safety for next season. Having been beaten in the reverse fixture 4-1 last year Berkhamsted started apprehensively.Â
The defence marshalled by Jamie Holderness ably supported by Adam Smith and Charlie Michie held firm in the first 10 minutes or so of Cheshunt pressure. Confidence slowly seeped into the Berkhamsted side and as the first half progressed they came more into the game. Some good runs by Duncan Hodges, Gary Stanwell and Rocky Savage began to find gaps in the Cheshunt defence for the forward line of James Barron and Pete Allam. Following a surging run from the midfield the ball fell kindly for Pete Allam to shoot through the goal keepers legs for a well deserved 1-0 lead. Berkhamsted continued to pressurise the Cheshunt goal and a cross from the right was nearly cheekily flicked in by Gary Stanwell. Shortly after Berkhamsted reaped further reward from good team work with Pete Allam shooting powerful via a reversed stick shot which flew past the Cheshunt keeper (2-0). Towards the end of the half Berkhamsted let up and Cheshunt came back into the game, whilst industrial in their effort Cheshunt failed to carve a clear opening, but did get a short corner although nothing came from it, Berkhamsted gladly accept the half time whistle 2-0 to the good.  Following last week's late loss Berkhamsted were determined not to give up a lead this week, some very determined played from the midfield including a returning Jack Peplow who had been away for a number of weeks meant that play in the second half was a bit disrupted. Berkhamsted eager to maintain their 2 goal advantage held back initially whilst Cheshunt pushed to get back in the game. Half way through the second half Berkhamsted's nerves were calmed with a wonder strike from Jason Silver, pouncing on a loss ball in the D, he shot back across the goal and found the keeper wanting (3-0). Berkhamsted had broken the Cheshunt spirit and marauded forward looking for a 4th, but despite several good opportunities for Pete Allam and James Barron it failed to materialise.  3-0 a great result, a very good all round team performance, lots of effort and good interplay meant a confidence building result.  |
