Womens 1xi 07/01/2012The ladies first team started the year with a 2-2 draw against Queenswood. The match started with the home team dominating and two reflex saves from Nat Kimble kept us in the match.
We soon found our rhythm and began to enjoy periods of prolonged possession. Steph VH was outstanding in midfield and after a move that started in defense she surged down the right wing and crossed for Faye Potton to slot the ball home for her first goal of the season. The match was proving very even and we had two or three opportunities to add a second but Queenswood held on. A goal against the run of play for the home side made the score 1-1 at the break. The second half saw us quickly re gain the lead, with Faye Potton providing a neat pass to Steph VH who calmly finished. Queenswood pushed for an equalizer but the experienced Berko defense looked solid, with Nat Kimble making several fine saves from a string of short corners. It looked as though we would hold out for our first win of the year until the home team scored a very controversial equalizer. The ball deflected into the D and the attacker controlled the ball to score. The final minutes saw Chops leave the defense in search of a winner and she found Faye in the D with the goal in front of her but sadly she slipped at the vital moment. An excellent effort from all concerned with Faye winning player of the match for an all round immense performance.
