The U12 girls team was promoted from division 4 to division 1 in the Chilterns Youth League. We knew the big jump would require strong characters and determination and we knew we have just that on these girls. Due to availability issues, we had to call upon some younger players to join the team.  Both Meredith and Eva were welcomed and supported by their more experienced players and shared the role of left forward.  They quickly got stuck in being the fast learners they and contributed to some fantastic team play.
We welcomed Megan, who only joined the club last week and were so happy to benefit from her skills, ball control, position in space and tenacious spirit.  We were strong in the centre with both Amy and Suri pushing up and driving the ball with some fantastic hockey skills.  Amy captained the team with such positivity and worked extremely hard as centre-mid, securing our place on the score board.  In defence, we had Saffi, Megan and Georgie being under constant attack.  It was astonishing to see the level of back-line play at this age, using their width and tackling skills.  Fantastic work by 8 year old goalie Abby who made some incredible saves.  And despite a cut lip and being taken out by the opposition, she came back even stronger securing a draw against a very tough St Albans team.  The girls played their hearts out right to the final whistle and bonded on and off the pitch.  Fantastic support from parents on the side-line, especially dad Adam who kept the goalie focused and  supported the defence line behind the goal.
Both Maria and I look forward to a wonderful season with these girls.
We lost 2 games against West Herts and Wycombe despite putting up a strong attack and drew a very difficult and skillful game against St Albans.
