In the nick of time !!

In the nick of time !!

The Matt report... or would have been if he had remembered to send one.

Some games are dull. Some games are boring. This was not one of those games.

Cheered on by an enthusiastic home crowd, Berkhamsted started the game like a rocket, pushing the visitors back creating several early chances, all of which came and went unfortunately.

Berkhamsted could not keep up this initial pace, and this allowed the visitors back into the game. The speed of the hard running front line caused the home defence quite a lot of trouble on the break. It was therefore not a total surprise that on one of their attacks, after stopping the initial two efforts, South Berkshire found a player free on the far post to take a lead.

The visitors, now full of confidence, pushed on to extend their lead. Under pressure Ed Holderness picked up a green card for taking the ball in the air in a dangerous way while making a tackle. Berkhamsted now had to regroup and see out those two minutes.

This galvanised the home side and once Ed was back on the pitch the game swung again. A speedy counterattack saw the ball whistle across the ā€˜D’ to find Pete Allam free in space and he deflected the ball into the top of net.

Within two minutes Ben Peat was on hand to put the ball past the keeper to leave a half time score 2-1.

Berkhamsted started the second half in the same way of the first, but somehow, they could not extend their lead. Still dangerous on the break South Berkshire managed to scramble home one of their few chances to level the scores.

With all to play for Berkhamsted now started to control the midfield, winning a string of short corners, none of which they were able to convert.

However, it was no surprise when Jake Alderson was next to find his name on the team sheet playing the ball under the keeper to give Berkhamsted a deserved lead again.

Jonathan Savage picked up a green card for a tackle from the wrong side, but the home side now looked in control.

However, with 10 minutes to go, disaster happen. Another quick break found a South Berkshire forward free on the left-hand side and from the tightest of angels he was able to rip the ball in the back of the net.

Berkhamsted picked themselves up and now kept on pushing forward in search of a winner.

It all looked in vain until they won a free hit on the top of the D. Once taken, the visiting defender immediately jumped in and was penalised for not being five yards away and a short corner awarded. The final whistle then blew.

With the last chance of the game Oli Johnson pull the ball out. The whistle immediately went as Jack Osbourne had encroached and now Oli was back on the halfway line.

It was now skipper Stanwell turn to inject the ball. The ball went straight to stick, where it was cleanly stopped and knocked back into the D for Ed Holderness to sweep the ball low and into the bottom corner of the goal.

Chaos ensued as the home team celebrated a dramatic 4-3 win.

Man of the Match went to Ed for that winning goal, but closely followed by Oli Johnson who had another fantastic game in the middle of the park and Tim at the back, solid as always.

Biggest surprise of the day was that DOD for once was not Ben Peat. James Barron, we know where your dog went.
