Letchworth weren’t sure if they’d played us previously, however, once they heard the dulcet tones of Knolly they were reassured they had!
From the whistle, Letchworth were a strong attacking force, pressuring our back line with Emma, Debs and Zoe ably fending them off. Vicks kept us in the game with a number of diving saves keeping the scoresheet clean. Letchworth dominated and were justifiably rewarded with the first within the first 10 mins and left us playing to their tune for the remainder of the half.
After some constructive feedback from Dina and others, Berko regrouped and started the second half with a completely different mindset and took the game to Letch. The centre was firmly guarded by a solid team of Faye, Pip and Rosie stopping the Letchworth forwards from coming through. Seven minutes in and Berko had a flurry of shorts, Megs swept in and Pip followed up and smashed in the rebound evening the score to 1:1. The Berko forwards were now even hungrier to score with Harrie’s tenacity in the D, Ali’s made one-twos running towards goal and Ellie’s confident attacks down the right. The pressure was on Letchworth with Rosie’s challenge into the D, she twizzled round 3 players and snuck the ball through finding Maria in front of the open goal, tapping the ball in for the winning goal.
A slow start for Berko but showing their strength of character, skill and team spirit coming from behind for a winning finish. Votes for player of the Match was closely contended by Faye and Zoe but Zoe pipped her for her sterling effort at the back.
