Playing fourth in the league wasn't as daunting as it might sound even when your team is propping up the bottom!
SB's don't travel particularly well and we'd drawn the earlier encounter (unless you count their last-minute winner), so we were up for this.

We had numbers and they were 11, so again things were looking up, but we started slowly and let in a sloppy goal after some 'fairly typical' goal mouth messing about! We improved and started to pass the ball around and look like a reasonable outfit. Some fine play down the left saw the ball hit Payton on the edge of the D. Beating his man and leaving the keeper for dead, on the floor and out of the equation, the usually reliable old dobber duffed his strike, which bobbled goal-bound like a tortoise and was comfortably saved by a defender who'd rather hopefully thought not to give up the inevitable equaliser!

The crowd enjoyed this and he laughed.

One nil and much team hilarity at the DotD award so expertly won, so early in the game, taking the rest of the team out of the DoD picture, even before the first half was done.
As it turned out we would spurn a fair few more chances. Rocky conjured himself to the top of the D and made space for a clear shot and perhaps his customary 1 goal per season? Sadly dragged wide and still 1 0! At the fines session, Rocky was voted DoD by Payton for the ridiculous miss, but for some reason, 12 other players voted for Paytons howler, (and the 3 other howlers that would usually have been a 4-goal Birthday haul)!
Barron scored twice to soften the blow, one from open play, assisted by Payton (who probably avoided another howler in doing so), and one from an expertly struck short corner.

Big Dave English, Little Dave, Tupper, Silver, Graham, Potton and Savage put in a shift. Kiddie, Holderness, Payton Jr and Krafft worked tirelessly so gutted to not win a game that should really have finished 7 3 to Berko. Liz and Doobie officiated officially and well and Hayd in the sticks had his first clean sheet (unless you count the 3 he let in).
