Berkhamsted 3s produced a dominant, disciplined, and at times resilient performance to record an impressive 6–0 victory away at Banbury 5s. From the opening minutes, the visitors played with purpose and structure, moving the ball confidently and controlling the tempo of the match.

The early pressure paid off when Nigel Edwards opened the scoring with a well executed penalty corner, setting the tone for what would become a fine individual and team display. Soon after, Berkhamsted doubled their advantage when Steve Redman finished a flowing attacking move with a sharp field goal. (It was actually a right slip from a short corner but who really reads this tosh anyway)? With momentum firmly on their side, Berkhamsted continued to stretch the Banbury defence, and in the 25th minute, Edwards reacted quickly in the D to score his second field goal of the afternoon, (Another short corner Nige finished from about 1cm - JUST SAYIN') extending the lead to 3–0.
Almost immediately after that goal, the match took a dramatic turn. Mark Robinson was shown a red card following a chest to chest encounter with a Banbury player, who fell theatrically despite minimal contact. The incident drew instant comparison to last Sunday’s North London derby, where a light touch between Randal Kolo Muani and Gabriel of Arsenal resulted in an exaggerated fall and a highly debated decision.

Despite the dismissal, Berkhamsted showed impressive composure. However, the afternoon became even more challenging shortly afterwards when Matt Hyde was cynically taken out by the Banbury goalkeeper, who charged out recklessly and collided heavily with him. Hyde was shown a 10 minute yellow card, while the Banbury keeper received a 5 minute yellow, forcing both sides to reorganise but leaving Berkhamsted temporarily down to nine players. From the resulting penalty flick, Nigel Edwards completed his hat trick, finishing with confidence to stretch Berkhamsted’s lead still further.
Even when short handed, Berkhamsted maintained their discipline and structure, slowing the game when needed and breaking with precision once players returned from suspension. Their control continued into the latter stages, and Ed Goodwyn added another well taken field goal after sustained pressure in the Banbury circle and a killer run and well executed pass from Teddy. The scoring was rounded off in clinical fashion by Owen Bownes, who produced a composed field goal to complete the 6–0 victory.
Nigel Edwards’ hat trick, combined with his excellent defensive work and overall contribution, earned him a thoroughly deserved Man of the Match award — made all the more entertaining by his regular suggestions that he’d quite like to be pulled off at half time.
In the end, this match showcased everything that makes Berkhamsted 3s such a formidable side: organisation, sharp finishing, disciplined defending under pressure, and an ability to stay calm and productive even when reduced in numbers. It was a superb team effort and a fully deserved win.
