Sunshine after the rain…..

Sunshine after the rain…..

Emma Potts

…. And amazing teas!

In the morning light—a time of day that rewards discipline and exposes those lacking it—Berko faced Welwyn and delivered a performance of calm authority, running out deserved 3–1 winners.

Berko wasted no time asserting control, scoring two goals before Welwyn had quite realised the match had started. The forward line of Ella, Issy, Bethan and Katie moved with purpose and confidence, clearly uninterested in sharing possession or mercy. Eva and Issy opened the scoring with finishes that suggested this outcome had been planned well in advance.

Welwyn eventually managed a reply, which Berko politely acknowledged before immediately restoring order. Katie sealed the game with Berko’s third goal, extinguishing any fleeting optimism Welwyn may have been nurturing.

The midfield—Maisy, Bea, Soph and Eva—ran proceedings with understated elegance, dictating tempo and making the game feel less like a contest and more like a well-rehearsed exercise. Behind them, the defensive unit of Allen, Ellie, Emma and Nic remained composed throughout, while Vicky in goal presided with the calm assurance of someone who simply does not panic before lunchtime.

Awards (as tradition demands):
• Man of the Match: Ella – for relentless commitment across the entire game, working tirelessly and setting the standard without ever seeking applause.
• Silent Hero: Issy – for versatility, adaptability, and quietly doing whatever was required, wherever it was required.
• Dick of the Day: Also Issy – for a magnificent collection of misadventures: being frightened of worms (delegating their removal to Jacob), hitting the post at a crucial moment, and hitting her own head in the changing room . Truly comprehensive.

A thoroughly respectable morning’s work for Berko: dominance established early, composure maintained, and the match wrapped up neatly. One left the pitch victorious, superior, and ready for lunch.
