It was a freezing cold Saturday morning, the kind where you can’t actually feel your toes, but we all turned up with serious game faces on. We looked like we meant business from the second we stepped out of our cars and had high hopes against Stevenage. Abby took charge of the warm-up, basically jumping us back to life and getting us organised before it was straight into the action.
The game was a total battle from start to finish with the second half on full attack. Our forwards (Abby, Maddie, Katie and Anne) were on fire and worked very well together. Yes it was Anne on the forward line and did an amazing job at it. In the middle, the pace was relentless, with players sprinting up and down the pitch like they had extra lungs. Goal-hungry Charley was so unlucky not to score this week again. We had some very skillful Stevenage players to defend but Mari, Helen, Charley and Tash were relentless on them. At the back, the wall of Hetty in goal was basically a superhero, pulling off dozens of insane saves to keep us in it. Their first goal cane from a short corner and despite a complete split from Hettie, it reached the corner of the goal. Their second goal came from a break of red wave and just out-numbered our defense. Siobhan, Suzie, Claire and Ame worked tiredlessly and managed to keep a clean sheet in the second half. All played their absolute hearts out, giving 110% in every tackle and run.
Even though the final score was a 2-0 loss, we honestly came back with everything we had. We were actually really happy with how we performed against a tough side. Plus, the newest member of the crew, baby Lenny! He’s officially our new team mascot and was definitely the cutest person at the pitch, even if he was the only one who got to nap through the freezing wind. Plenty of cuddles at teas softened the loss a bit.
Lady of the game votes were so well distributed showing the great teamwork by all although Riggers and Maddie shared the final top votes and so well deserved.
