We set out from sunny Berko in normal conditions, but pretty soon the sun was going down in far-away Hitchin and by push back Blueharts were already firing up the flood lights as darkness was very much upon up. This post-Halloween fixture meant many of the squad were essentially 75% Haribo, but nevertheless we were united in our desire for another goal fest following last week’s 7:2 triumph….
It turns out Blueharts aren’t top of the league for nothing .. they are well organised with impressive passing skills, moving the ball quickly and effectively around the pitch. The W4s are a feisty bunch however who according to one Blueharts defender “didn’t make it easy for them” . The score line ended up very much a reverse of the previous week with a 7:1 defeat, but the team can be proud of the grit and determination that endured till the final whistle, despite the additional pressure of torrential rain and wind.
Stand out moments include:
Mobbsie’s insight and instruction pitch side was both energising and enlightening. Thank you!
Outstanding performances in defence – score line could easily have been much worse, Goalie Matilda deservedly winning 2 POM votes for numerous gallant saves, plus bold play from entire defensive line up and in particular POM Iris who showed tenacity and skill at (R) back.
Midfield ran their socks off – some spectacular ball carrying by Lucy was noted by Mobbsie. Captain Jo apparently in more than one place at a time, bolstering both defence and midfield with ease.
Our touchline coach spotted many examples of outstanding effort, but special shout outs to Jo B and Sophie for truly remarkable sprints completed in a ‘never give up fashion’
Forward line worked phenomenally hard attempting to block and break down Blueharts defence.
Congratulations to Jess who managed to calmly convert our only goal too.
POM: Iris
Other votes to Matilda, Lucy, Isla, Jess, Sophie & Vausey.
