An 8.30 meet in Hertford an early start for most, but the sun was shining and the U10 Boys were ready for the long day ahead of them, full of energy and bouncing around with positivity.

Our first match against Letchworth left us hopeful for the rest of the tournament. Our attacking play was on show with the mids - Ozzie, Albert, Rory and Jacob encouraging the play down the wings and dominating the baseline to use the 90-degree pass back or the cross into the D. When they linked-up up with Tom with his stick work dodging the defenders saw us through to our first win 3-0.

Blueharts A’s were keen to right the score from our previous meeting. Our back line – Teddy ably tracking back and intercepting passes to make those all-important clearances to the mids. Monty’s channelling play keeping them out wide and away from the D, and Ethan’s timely tackles and strong sweeps of the ball made the difference to the team. Raffie in goal made some crucial clearances to keep us in contention. The boys fought hard but unfortunately Blueharts A team snuck one past us finishing 1-0. Our 3rd game against Hertford also followed suit losing 1-0.

After a rousing team talk from coach Robin, and a re-group the boys started the game against St. Albans with a renewed fighting spirit. This was it, Berko were all over them and the majority of play spent pressuring St. Albans in their D. Berko were awarded a number of shorts but just couldn’t convert. The score finished 0.0.

Our final 2 games after lunch were against Broxbourne and Blueharts Bs. The boys played some wonderful hockey, with a sense of urgency to get some goals. They showed a mature approach to their games carrying and protecting the ball before laying it off. Eliminating players by lifting the ball over the opponents sticks, strength in tackles to win the ball, covering the goal from tight angles. Waiting for the tap in on the left post. After such fun filled day had by both boys and parents, (thank you so much for all your support), the day fostered a real team spirit which was exciting to be a part of. Overall we placed 3rd which is a massive achievement considering the size of other clubs, we are immensely proud of our boys.
