This weeks tournament was at the Blueharts ground in Hitchin with the girls entered into the Herts B division. The format was two rounds of matches each against Broxbourne and Blueharts. We assembled in what can only be described as a deluge, but spirits were nonetheless high as we discussed positioning and strategy.
First up was Blueharts match 1. A strong opposition Blueharts broke through a number of times, only to be beaten by a remarkable stick save mid air by Annie who was guarding the goal staunchly. Eventually we finished 2-0 down but there was some good reflection post game about opportunities for the girls to improve on using space, and communicating.
Match 2 was against Broxbourne, and it was a much improved start with good use of the width and less clustering. A number of great runs from Isobel and Alice in particular, but in the end we were held to a 0-0 drawer.
Match 3 was back with Broxbourne for round 2. This time there was some real determination from the girls to win, and win they did. A great goal from a girl called Holly who we had “borrowed” from the Blueharts team but generally a very strong team performance from all with Bethany and Abbie in particular keeping pressure on the Broxbourne defence.
The final match was Blueharts again. There was some great open running play and stronger passing from the team. Blueharts pressed us a number of times but some amazing defending from Kenzie and Isobel kept them at bay resulting unfortunately with a stick to Kenzie’s foot. Alice and Abbie were strong in midfield but in the end we had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
A great team effort with significant improvement in play as the matches progressed. Well done all.
