An unlucky loss for the Maidens in the EH cup game against High Wycombe, after a tough and well fought game.
Two well drilled squads met on the BHHHC pitch with even better drilled umpires Ed and Gareth. We knew this would be tough and came a very distant second against them a couple of years ago. Double digits come to mind but that was long forgotten. The Maidens have grown, have practiced and have developed into a structure of pink force on and off the pitch. We were up against some national masters players but the team started with their ever composed play. We knew within the first 15 minutes that this game could go either way. It was end to end attacks and Wycombe's frustrations started building early. The umpires made it clear that the cards were ready to come out.
Everyone played tirelessly on the pitch and the pace was fast.
Ali worker much harder than ever in goal and our very own Scottish lass jumped and dived to clear the attacks. Surrounded by the wall of top cricketer Emma, Bristolian Beth, ball-walloper Barbs and two-feeted Annie. Sweepster Shrina made mince-meet of central attacks. Let's hope that dive and hamstring heals quickly. Dare-devil Debs, our first runner on shorts,
peskitrian Faye, formula one Max and Barbie Babs had midfield under control.
Hug-craving Jen (or is it goal-craving) had the opo shaken and was so unlucky not to score today. She was spotted by the opo's county regional players and no doubt would have preferred her in their team.
The speed of Good-win Kate today!!! She is back after that injury no doubt.
Numerous attempts and pressure in the forward line came also from nurse Kate H on the left and Mrs P, thank goodness the hips are back. Mini-Min played a stormer of a game despite receiving yet again the grumpy old git award.
The first goal from Wycombe came from short corner after an initial goal was disallowed. The second goal was in the last 5 minutes and again from a short. A few scrapes and scraps and umpire Ed just spotted that ball over the white line.
Maidens gave it all till the end, even Ame's last minute head butts. Alas!
Focusing on the remaining masters Mayhem, unbeaten in their friendly league and growing, the pink army will go on and on...
Well done to Ali for being
voted as player of the game!
