U16's keeping up the unbeaten record from last season

Match Report: Berko U16 Mixed – Season Opener
The Berko U16 Mixed team began their season in style, determined to keep up the incredible record of last year’s squad, who went unbeaten. With several younger players stepping up into the side, this was always going to be a big test, but the team rose to the challenge brilliantly.
Newcomers Abby and Owen slotted in up front, Henry and Alex held firm in defence, George and Thomas brought energy in midfield, and Beth commanded the goal with confidence. From the first whistle, the team showed tremendous skill and composure, adapting quickly to the pace of U16 hockey. Early goals from Abby and George set the tone in the first half, with George’s all-round display earning him the well-deserved Player of the Game vote.
Adding experience to the side were seasoned U16 players Ryan and Annabelle up front, Annika, Sophie and Bea in midfield, and Anna sweeping up at the back. Their composure and calmness helped steady the team against Broxbourne, who fielded some lightning-fast forwards and mounted dangerous counterattacks. The Berko defence held strong, frustrating their opponents and keeping the scoreline in check.
This was far from a one-sided affair, with goals galore, the match kept supporters on the edge of their seats. After a halftime refuel (in true U16 style: plenty of sugar), Berko came out flying again. Goals from Ryan and Owen added to the tally, sparking smiles all around from Coach Raj, who was visibly proud of the performance.
For a group who haven’t all played together before, the communication and teamwork were outstanding. Passing was sharp, pressing formations were disciplined, and the whole squad played with unity and confidence , hallmarks of good hockey at its best.
The display was a credit not only to the players but also to the dedication shown in training, the friendships built over time, and of course the foundations laid through countless Tom Walker holiday hockey camps. Supported by fantastic managers and coaches, this was a performance the whole club can be proud of.
Final thought: This was good hockey. Really good hockey. A well-deserved 5-3 win for Berko.
