Match Report – Broxbourne vs Berko
Today we faced off against Broxbourne. We started with a solid setup at the back: Anna, Anika, and Henry/Alex holding the line, with Hetty standing firm in goal. The backline showed some great distribution early on, keeping things composed and setting the tone for the match.
In midfield, George, Thomas, and Tom worked tirelessly to keep possession and push the play forward, with Ryan leading the attack at the top of the diamond. Up front, Maddy, Abby, and Owen kept Broxbourne’s defence under constant pressure, making some great runs and linking up well.
Despite our strong start, we went 1–0 down after a quick counter from Broxbourne. However, we bounced back immediately with Owen cleverly winning a penalty flick, which Ryan calmly slotted into the bottom-left corner to make it 1–1. Momentum swung our way soon after, with George hammering a brilliant shot from the top of the D to give us a 2–1 lead.
Unfortunately, Broxbourne equalised from a short corner late in the game, bringing it back to 2–2. In the final moments, Tom and Anna were screaming for a short but time ran out before we could convert our chances.
Defensively, we were mostly rock solid Anna charging out to block short corners superbly, while Alex and Henry made several crucial tackles to win the ball back. Annabelle made some great driving runs down the flank, getting the ball into the D and keeping their defence busy. Annika was outstanding, defending with real determination and strength, while Henry kept cool under pressure, firing the ball cleanly out of our D time and time again.
Up front, the Owen,Ryan, Annabel, George combination was a true example of persistence and teamwork, refusing to give up and creating constant problems for the opposition. They were fed some fabulous balls from Thomas and Tom in midfield, who controlled the play beautifully.
Overall, it was a great display of teamwork with everyone chasing down the ball, supporting each other, and playing with real spirit against tough opposition and a few tricky players.
We’re all hoping Thomas recovers quickly after his injury, which sadly took him out of the match. A strong team performance and a well-earned draw that we can all be proud of.
